Types of Appointments
Office visit. This is a regular appointment for treating one or two health issues, depending on their complexity.
Preventive visit. A longer visit focusing on preventing illness and disease, not to address specific health issues. Examples of topics covered are: family health history, immunizations, review of diet & exercise, cancer screenings (i.e. colon, breast, prostate, etc…) a physical exam and screening blood tests.
Annual Wellness Visit (Medicare). This is a longer appointment for addressing preventive issues and does NOT include a physical exam. Hearing, vision, immunizations, cancer screenings, diet and exercise counseling, discussion of Advance Directives, review/update of your medical history, and a written preventive plan for the next 10 years are some of the topics covered. Medicare pays for these annual wellness exams only once every 365 days, even if the previous wellness exam took place in another doctor’s office. If you are a new patient, please give us the date of your last Medicare Wellness Visit (MWV.).
Well child visit. This is a preventive visit for patients under 18 years of age. Like an adult preventive visit, it is for addressing preventive health issues and not for treating or managing illness. Examples of topics covered are: hearing & vision assessment, growth & development, healthy eating, counseling about age-appropriate health topics and immunizations.
Nurse only visit. An appointment that does not require face to face contact with a provider, for procedures such as flu shots, tuberculosis skin tests, pregnancy tests, etc.
